Gary Chester was one of the busiest studio drummers of the '60s and '70s and played on hundreds of hit records. His systems have been used and endorsed by drummers such as Kenny Aronoff, Danny Gottlieb, and Dave Weckl. This is not just another drum book, but rather a system that will help you develop the skills needed to master today's studio requirements. These systems are not designed to be palyed strictly as exercises, but used as tools to develop new musical ideas that can be applied to any and all musical styles. By working with this book, you'll improve your reading, concentration, coordination, right and left-hand lead, and awareness of the click. This revised edition contains access to an online recording of an interview with Chester.

In this, the first drum book he has written, music legend Steve Gadd presents a series of rudimental passages inspired by his experience in drum corps and his love of the rudiments. Each of the etudes is based on a classic or contemporary rudiment, or on Steve's personal variations. He takes the phrases and then displaces them to begin on different subdivisions of the beat, thereby creating new, challenging patterns from the basic sticking. All of the solos are written in musical phrases that reinforce the player's understanding of the importance of phrasing as a key element of musicianship.
The book has been painstakingly hand-engraved at Steve's request, to bring a comfortable and classic look to the pages. The layout of each page was also designed specifically by Gadd to create an easy yet musical flow to the reading. The book is also spiral-bound making sure it lays flat. These features are reflective of a man who has read thousands of charts in the studio on some of the most important recordings of our time.
Accompanying the book is a full set of videos with Steve demonstrating each etude using the method he used to write the book: Playing with his rubber-tip practice sticks on a piece of wood. Even in this situation, Gadd's legendary groove and musicality shine through. Drum set, drum corps, and classical drummers will find an instant classic in these pages, with elements that will improve your technical ability, musical phrasing, groove, and your rhythmic vocabulary using the challenging technique of displacement that Steve bases the book upon.
STEVE GADD is one of the all-time legends of drumming, having appeared on thousands of recordings in every major style in which the drumset is played, with artists who comprise a literal who's-who of contemporary recording artists, including Chick Corea, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, Al DiMeola, Al Jarreau, Stanley Clarke, Chuck Mangione. He is also an established producer and bandleader of the Gadd Gang and the Steve Gadd Band.
Drumming legend Carmine Appice has once again updated the best-selling drumset book in the history of rock drumming. In addition to the classic information on basic rock rhythms and polyrhythms, linear rudiments and groupings, hi-hat and double bass drum exercises, and shuffle rhythms and syncopation exercises, Carmine has included over 20 new pages and a new audio of fresh material. The recordings have been re-mastered, with updates including three new play-along tracks and audio examples that correspond with the new sections on odd-time signatures, hands and feet combinations, and rave/dance drumming.
Audio is accessed online using the unique code inside the book and can be streamed or downloaded. The audio files include PLAYBACK+, a multi-functional audio player that allows you to slow down audio without changing pitch, set loop points, change keys, and pan left or right.

Among the very few truly iconic drum method books, legendary drummer Joe Morello's Master Studies is, according to Morello's own preface, not a “how-to” book, but rather a workbook of material to use in developing the hands for accenting and controlling the different pressures used in single strokes, double strokes, and closed rolls. “You can go through the book uding any technique you'ved been taught,” Morello states, “and you can apply the ideas in this book to any style of music you want.” Chapters are broken down into subjects of accents, buzz rolls, stroke combinations, control studies, fill-ins, ostinatos, and flams. Volume II is a logical extension of the original book. “Like Master Studes,” offered Morello, “it's a workbook of material to use in developing the hands. It's not a drumset or coordination book, although several of the exercises can be played on the drumset. The book can be used by the classical, jazz, rock or even rudimental drummer.”

“In many respects, this book picks up where the original Master Studies left off. Some of the material shown here is more difficult than that found in the first book. Like Master Studies, it's a workbook of material to use in developing the hands. It is not a drumset or coordination book, although several of the exercises can be played on the drumset. This book can be used by the classical, jazz, rock, or even rudimental drummer, although it does not focus on the rudiments as such. The exercises in this book should be practiced with a metronome. It will help you to play more rhythmically accurate by teaching you to space the notes correctly. Some of the exercises are very challenging to play and require slow, sensible, and accurate practice. Please be patient. The results will be more than satisfying.” –Joe Morello
