Double Bass Concerto Op. 3: Double Bass and Piano Reduction
Model: 51481451

Thanks to its skilful combination of Romantic melody and sparkling virtuosity, Koussevitzky's Double Bass Concerto op. 3 has been one of the most popular works of its genre since its Moscow premiere in 1905. No wonder, for the virtuoso double bass player Koussevitzky had composed it for his very own instrument. As early as 1906/07 a first piano reduction was published in Moscow, followed by a second in 1910 in Leipzig. However, both contain so many mistakes in the solo part that there is still uncertainty about the correct musical text in many passages to this day. The double bass player Tobias Glöckler has therefore prepared his Urtext edition using several sources: as well as the manuscript performance material and the piano reductions published during the composer's lifetime, he has also studied recordings with Koussevitzky as soloist - thereby finally producing a thoroughly-researched Urtext edition of the orchestral score and piano reduction of this classic of the double bass literature. As with all double bass concertos published by Henle Publishers, this edition also contains the piano reduction by Christoph Sobanski in two keys (E minor and F sharp minor) for performance with solo or orchestral tuning.

Urtext Edition, Piano reduction, paperbound

The Not-Doings of an Insomniac: Partita for Double Bass and Poetry Rea
Model: 50602262

The Not-Doings of an Insomniac - Partita for Solo Double Bass with spoken texts - was premiered by Robert Black at the International Society of Bassist Convention at the Griffin Concert Hall in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Not-Doings of an Insomniac developed as a result of Philip Glass's frequent travels to unfamiliar cities and different time-zones, changes that often bring on bouts of insomnia. While on a trip in Europe in 2015, Glass decided to turn these redundant waking hours into something useful, and one of the results is this Partita for Solo Double Bass, written for Robert Black of Bang on a Can All-Stars fame.

The piece is written in seven movements, each with its own title: Not Dreaming, Tasting, Smelling, Hearing, Seeing, Touching respectively, and finishing with Not Beginning. Not Ending. What raises this set into something atmospheric and theatrical are the poems in between each movement. These are by Glass's friends or associates, and the texts by Lou Reed, John Cale, Laurie Anderson, Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith and Arthur Russell are read on the recording of this work by Robert Black.

Concerto - Les Classiques de la Contrebasse
Model: 48180251

This famous Concerto for Double Bass and Piano accompaniment by Edouard Nanny is part of theDouble Bass Classics. It is the famous piece No. 23 of this collection which, even though attributed to Dragonetti, is commonly acknowledge as a tribute to him composed by Edouard Nanny. The book features a score and double bass part. Written in A major and divided in three parts, Allegro Moderato, Andante and Allegro Giusto, all its movements start with the piano which is later joined by the double bass. This latter then becomes the main element, the piano accompaniment being mainly chords. Quite difficult, this piece would fit the skills and abilities of advanced players, for recitals or concerts.
