This volume contains two documents essential to Schumann's acquisition, transformation and transmission of knowledge of the theory of music: one of them is Schumann's own copy of Luigi Cherubini's Cours de contrepoint et de fugue, and the other is the manual of counterpoint and fugue which he based upon it and wrote for his pupil Karl Ritter.
