This work was first performed in October 1995, in Poole, Dorset, by Wilhelmenia Fernandez; the Choristers of St. George's Chapel, Windsor; and the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, conducted by Neville Creed. This concert, filmed by BBC Television, celebrated the launch of the premiere recording of African Sanctus with “Dona Nobis Pacem”. The composer, David Fanshawe, notes: “My setting of 'Dona nobis pacem' completes the text of the 'Agnus Dei' heard in African Sanctus. It is written as a gesture of thanks to the world I have been privileged to see and experience in my time. This work, a paean for today, expresses my innermost feelings that reach out far beyond Africa, to a limitless horizon of hope for the future and love for the world.” “Dona Nobis Pacem (A Hymn for World Peace)” can be performed by itself or as part of African Sanctus. Performance Time: Approx. 5:30.
