This sophisticated setting is befitting of the timeless poetry of young writer Hannah Senesh, one of the tragic heroes of the Holocaust. “Blessed is the match,” she writes allegorically, “consumed in kindling flame”. The choir makes way for solo flute (or violin) lines for a haunting effect. Sung in Hebrew, this piece is a moving addition to any memorial service or Shoah program.
