Written with almost no guidance on how to interpret each study, Marcel Moyse deliberately left the choice to the flautist to pick their own rhythm/tempo and to write their own annotations on the book. Considered as a maestro by some musicians, Marcel Moyse has composed many flute methods and exercise books also published by Alphonse Leduc, such as Mécanisme-Chromatisme (1927) and De la Sonorité (1934).
